From my first year at the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid studying Computer Science I was caught by the Computer Graphics.
I first began to use POV ray and bezier patches like modellers, just to try to understand how you can create all of these wonderful world from nothing into a computer.
I also has been interested in art from my very early ages, making draws and painting miniatures from the Second World War and Fantasy games.
But where I found myself was in the mix of the technical and artistic sides.
At the same, around the 2K year I begun to play and love Linux, UNIX and Open Source and although currently I am using Mac I still loved all of this culture philosophy and movements around the Open Source software.
This interesting in UNIX moved me to help my old friend Juanlu to build his own small studio, implementing the file server and later the workstation using Linux as the main platform.
These were really excitement days when everyday we discover something new and we learnt how to create many of the stuff we watched at the Cinema but in a small scale.
I begun to start to learn RenderMan with the beloved Advanced RenderMan book to help Juanlu´s team in the production of a short film. This was my first time doing production and the beginning of the history ...
Maybe the other milestone in these early days was the discovery of my favourite 3D tool: Houdini.
In 2003 I tried to start Utopia Animation a romantic idea about our own studio with my friend Juanlu, finally the project didn´t work but was a really rich and intensive experience, I learnt a lot of thing from these days.
At the summer of 2004 I joined Next Limit Technologies, this was my first paid job in the industry. I worked there for a year and a half as a plug-in developer for Maya and Rhino integrating the just created Maxwell render engine. Another really good experience in one of the most respected spanish companies in the business.
Pursuing my passion for FX and image I want to move my career to a more mixed role, not as a pure developer, I really wanted to be a TD for everything, FX, Lighting, Rendering, Characters, etc ...
Because in Spain this was really hard, most studios weren´t enough mature to have enough technical stuff and even the role of TD was almost inexistent, so an opportunity come from the training world, Alejandro López trust on me and hired me to developed the first Houdini and RenderMan courses ever in Spain. I really have to thank all the passion he put in this project. So far I have been learning Houdini and RenderMan more as an enthusiastic CG fan rather than a professional, this allows me to invest all my time to work with Houdini and RenderMan and learnt a lot of things. Also I begun an amazing relationship with the best company in the CG industry: Side FX Software, the creators of Houdini.
In addition I get a lot of experience teaching, creating learning materials, networking etc ...
Due to my girlfriend job we moved to Barcelona in the summer of 2007, I was really lucky because I was able to get my first production job at Furia Digital, where I worked in Mortadelo y Filemón 2 and several commercials. This was the firs experience using Houdini in Spain for serious production.
After this I begun my London era, first thanks to Jordi Bares I entered at The Mill to implement the Houdini pipeline as well as doing several tools and effects for a commercial called Cities On Water.
When the project at The Mill finished I went to a small, but really good, studio Realise. Work with Paul and Norra has been always a pleasure and is a really nice place to work, small and fully Houdini based.
Most of my work up to this point was almost commercials, I wanted to move to film to get a more stable job and then appeared MPC looking for FX TD. I got the job and worked there for 6 months doing GIJOE: The Rise of Cobra. 6 really intensive months with a lot of work, the best the people I found there.
And now here I am in my last adventure at London at Double Negative. I really wanted to move to this studio because maybe is the better now in London with lots of really good people amazing upcoming projects and the best Houdini team all around Europe.
And the history continues ...…
